Our goal is to help community members, especially beginners, assess the market soberly and plan their growth. All figures come from public sources listed at the bottom of the page; our own calculations are marked separately.

Salaries: growth has reached a plateau
DOU surveys IT specialists about salaries twice a year and publishes median trends by job title. The UI/UX Designer median rose from $1,000 in December 2019 to $1,850 in December 2022 and has stayed between $1,600 and $1,800 since. The Product Designer median has moved between $2,800 and $3,200 since mid-2022. Amounts are US dollars per month after tax.

Over the half-year to summer 2026, medians grew slightly: according to DOU, by $125 for Product Designers and by $100 for UI/UX Designers. The median for the whole UI/UX / Product Design category in June 2026 was $2,475, and half of the respondents earned between $1,590 and $3,370.
Experience level matters most

A junior's median ($900) is roughly a third of a senior's ($2,850). In winter 2025/26 the gap was even wider: $750 versus $3,000. Pay also depends on the type of company: the median is $2,900 in product companies and $2,000 in service companies. The work format makes little difference: $2,500 for remote work versus $2,400 for hybrid.
Demand: fewer vacancies, more competition
DOU Jobs trends show that the number of vacancies in the Design category peaked in October 2025 at 360 a month. By October 2026 it had fallen to 216, about 40% lower (our calculation). Over the same period, applications per vacancy rose from 33 to 73.

Djinni shows the same picture. In the Design category, new jobs per month fell from 573 in November 2025 to 277 in October 2026, while applications per job rose from 25 to 65. In the narrower UI/UX category there were 89 new jobs in October 2026, with an average of 89 applications each. At the time of viewing, Djinni listed 1,122 active UI/UX candidates and 33 open jobs — about 34 candidates per opening (our calculation).

What this means for beginners. Competition for a first job is high right now, so what decides is not the number of applications but the quality of the portfolio and hands-on experience. That is why we run free design games and give feedback on work in the community. More in the guide Design portfolio.

Design in Ukrainian IT is becoming an increasingly female profession: according to DOU's Portrait of an IT specialist, the share of women among designers grew from 27% in 2015 to 50% in 2024. In the summer 2026 salary survey, 186 of 307 respondents were women. Designers are also more likely than others to have a second full-time job (9%), and 13% of UI/UX specialists fear that demand for their specialization will fall because of AI.
Global context: AI and scarce junior roles
- In Figma's State of the Designer 2026 (906 designers), 89% said they work faster and 91% said new AI tools improve their designs.
- In Figma's 2025 AI report, only 31% of designers used AI in core design work (59% among developers), and only 32% of respondents said they can rely on AI output.
- Nielsen Norman Group's State of UX 2026 says senior and generalist roles are recovering faster than entry-level positions, which remain scarce and highly competitive.
- In winter 2025, DOU found that more than 80% of Ukrainian designers use ChatGPT.
Methodology
We did not run our own survey: this is an overview of open data. Salaries are medians from DOU surveys (self-reported, with about 300 design respondents per wave). Vacancy data comes from the public trend pages of DOU Jobs and Djinni as of November 4, 2026. Different sources count differently, so compare trends rather than absolute numbers across platforms. If you spot a mistake, write to us and we will fix it.
